InnerSpark, Inc. supports people with Intellectual Disabilities to live a life self-determined and rooted in their community. Each individual has choice over the home they rent and their housemate(s). Time is taken to meet each person and understand their wishes, desires, and unique range of support needs. A home designed by choice with one’s own space outside of a bedroom is critical to success. Each individual is given the opportunity to experience “pride of ownership” of their own home and community connectedness. Autonomy over one’s own life and home is critical to each person’s success. Every home is designed with each unique person in mind and reflects the desires of that person. This often includes self-care, home maintenance, friends, hobbies, and meaningful work and relationships. Engaging in the community is individualized as well as transportation services. Living in a community with familiar faces promotes community connectedness and integration with unpaid friends which is vital to a satisfying life. A relationship of respect is maintained with every interaction and a focus on life course.
